Michel Jorratt

Michel Jorratt is an Industrial Civil Engineer and a Master's Degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Chile. He worked for 15 years in the Chilean tax administration, holding the position of Director of Studies.

He has worked as a consultant for a number of international organizations, including the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. He has also advised several governments in Latin American countries on the design and evaluation of their tax systems.

He has written extensively on inequality, tax equity and the progressivity of the tax systems. Some of these studies were the basis for the last Chilean tax reform, carried out in 2014.

In 2014 he was appointed Director of the Chilean Internal Tax Service, a position he held until mid-2015. Among other tasks, he was involved in the design and implementation of the Tax Reform just mentioned.

At present, Michel is a consultant in tax policy and tax administration, and professor at the University of Chile.
